“Saying that men are fearful of birth is true. We are fearful of it because although it seems very simple, it also seems beyond comprehension at the same time. We are without a doubt partly responsible for that baby coming into this world and yet it feels like our part is over and now our wives have to do all the hard work. We feel a bit helpless, unnecessary and downright ignorant all at the same time. Thank God for the Bradley Method and Jessica Dixon (our Doula…which is a birth assistant, for those new to the natural childbirth scene).
“Men, if you want to know how to help your wife and take responsibility for the child you’ve created then here’s your chance. Jessica will be there to bring us out of our male darkness and into the Bradley Method light. It’s a lot of work my fellow men, but it can be done and I know it’s easier than having a baby. We can help our wives give birth and catch this, we can be more help than a doctor can. You have it in you to be the most important person in the labor room. You can be a calming force, a voice of reason and a champion of bringing your new child into this world under the best circumstances possible.
“So take the Bradley class with Jessica. It’s pretty simple actually; you put on some sweatpants, grab some pillows and a water bottle and head to the class with your wife in tow. You should do it because you’ll learn enough to feel confident when you get to the hospital, you’ll laugh a lot and most of all, your wife and new baby will love you for it, for the rest of their lives.”
