What's a Birthkeeper?
When I heard the term Birthkeeper, I absolutely fell in love with it.
You see birth is such a sacred event and when a woman is in such a vulnerable moment in her life, having someone to hold space for her so she can be inside herself is vital. This is something you can't get inside the hospital or the medicalized system. The other thing you cannot get in the medical system is a family-centered birth with your husband in the pool catching your baby or your children present for the birth of their sibling.
A Birthkeeper is someone who brings knowledge, skills and experience to allow you to birth comfortably in your surroundings. I do as much or as little needed because YOU are in charge. We create that detailed plan prior to delivery in the prenatal period.
Birth is a physiological event and experience and when left alone it flourishes without assistance almost all of the time. God created us perfectly to bring our children into the world and nothing need interfere. Now are there times when some assistance is needed? Absolutely. Are there times when medical options are needed? Yes and it's great that we have that available to us if the need arises. But for the most part our bodies are beautifully designed and when we work WITH them intuitively then birth can be beautiful and undisturbed.
I provide free consultation calls to see if we are a good fit for each other. When you make the decision to hire me as your Birthkeeper, you can expect a tailor-made plan just for you which will include prenatal visits to build our trust relationship, the entire birth support, immediate post-partum as well as some post-partum follow up visits to ensure your breastfeeding and bonding is going well. Within the initial contract is also a detailed intake form where we discuss previous pregnancy and birth history, nutrition counselling, any fears or concerns surrounding your pregnancy and delivery plan as well as defining what your support plan looks like prenatally and post-partum.
